Finally the weekend

It's 10:40PM on Friday, July 31st. I'm at ninang's weekend house in Lantau Island. I woke up today and went to work. I brought my northface denali fleece sweater with me because the studio puts the AC on blast, and I get hella cold! Brr. I brought an extention cord with me to work because of what happened yesterday: When I was unplugging my laptop charger, I accidentally pressed the switch of the power strip, and one guy's computer shut off. I felt so bad! I didn't know what to do. Anyways, a quick fix to prevent that from happening again, was to bring an extention cord, lol.

I notice that everyday at work, I usually work extensively on projects until 2 hours after lunch. Then afterwards, I feel like I've done all the I can and I usually just tweak little things in my designs. But for the most part, I really need to find more to do in these last 2 hours. Sometimes I feel like an outsider with the rest of the design studio, with the exception of a couple people who have reached out to me. But, I do understand that there is a language barrier for the most part, and that I may just need to give it time. They all seem pretty nice though!

After work, I took the MTR to Tung Chung at the City Gate outlets. I had dinner there and had pan fried pork dumplings, fried rice, coconut and sugo. Yumm! Then I walked around and looked at the outlet stores that were there: there was puma, nike addidas, armani exchange, etc... Hopefully I can go back there, because I saw a messenger bag there from Puma that I was considering buying. Afterwards my godmother took me grocery shopping and we got a few things. We took a taxi back to her place in Tong Fuk, which was about a 10 minute drive. Im here at her house, on the bed, enjoying wifi and AC. yay

old school bowling

Hey everyone! Hong Kong is still hot and the humid is not enjoyable, but I am having a great time here. I have just completed my 4th day at Monopoly Design as an intern. I have met a few people so far, and they are really nice. Still working on those projects that were mentioned in the previous post. I really think that my friends should get to HK quick! I wanna go to Lan Kwai Fong sooon and get drunk. I haven't drank in over a week already. I must sound like a DAMN alchy right now, but I miss drinking and going out with my cousins and friends.

After work today I went to the Hong Kong club. My ninang was there bowling with her friends and she asked me before If i wanted to join her. I said yes! However, I was very surprised about how DIFFERENT it was from bowling back home. It's not like ACME bowl in southcenter everyone. Apparently the bowling lanes in the Hong Kong club is the oldest in Hong Kong. There's only 4 lanes. There are attendants who manually reposition the bowling pins instead of an actual machine that does it. Also, there is no computer scoring your score, you have to do it manually. OLD SCHOOL. LOL. I was having a really crappy bowling day, I only bowled 110. I usually bowl 150+, especially when I'm drunk (all my cousins can attest to that, lol).

Tomorrow, My ninang, her maid celly, and I are going to Lantau Island on tong fuk. I can see why she likes going there everyweekend. Its so chill and relaxing there, which is the complete opposite of her home and area in central hong kong. I'm looking forward to going there this weekend. I'm looking forward to possibly swimming in the beach again and also going to the outlet malls in city gate. Hopefully I can go!!

See you later

I will lose so much weight at this rate =)

Today was my second day of my internship at Monopoly Design. I woke up early, yet again, at 3AM. Probably due to me sleeping around 8PM the night before. I still haven't fully recovered from my Jetlag.  I woke up and I took a shower. Our wonderful maid Celly cooked me some sausage with rice, and toast with butter. I left for work 30 minutes before I started. It is about a 10 minute walk from where I am living. I got around the buildling early, so I stopped by starbucks coffee and got a iced grande vanilla hazelnut latte, yum. It tasted slightly different from what I am used to in the States, but it was still good to put coffee in my mouth. When I went to the Office, I started working more on the projects they had assigned to me the day before. For lunch, I ended up going to my Ninang's office and ate grilled chicken, chicken adobo, bachoy, and rice. Also, I finished the strawberry animal pudding, whom I named Topher. LOL. Everyone in the office seems nice, but I feel like there's a definite language barrier that prevents us from proper communication. There are a few people that introduced themselves to me. I've never been put into the situation where I didn't know anybody.

After work, I took the MTR train to causeway bay. That was no problem. Finding IKEA was a BITCH to do. The IKEA was supposedly in Gloucester drive. I walked up and down that, when I found out that it was on the drive, but the entrance of the building was in the adjascent street. Everything in this IKEA was SO MUCH SMALLER than in IKEA Seattle. Their Selfserve department is TINY, like 8 aisles. Their "as is" department is called the "bargain corner". I ended up buying some pillows, pillow cases, and a lint roller. I went over to SOGO mall and I bought NOT ONE, but TWO messenger bags. They were really nice! Both are puma, one black and one brown. Afterwards I ate at a restaurant alone, and it was called "Anytime" . I had this spaghetti which was pretty good. Coming home from causeway was so confusing. I was supposed to get an the train that was going towards Wan Chai, instead i went to the one that was going towards Chai Wan. WTF, they should name these places less confusingly. Forreal. I was sweating like a cow, NOT CUTE. Got home, and finally took a shower, lovely, the end.

First week of Hong Kong

I am finally in Hong Kong. The travel to this metropolitan city was very tiring. I couldn't wait to get out of the airplane and just sleep on the futon bed in my godmother's flat in central hong kong, the heart of hong kong. But first, let me explain my travels from Seattle to Hong Kong. My flight from seatac airport to incheon south korea was about 11 hours long. The 1st 5 hours of this flight wasn't too bad. I watched a movie and ate some airplane food. After that, I was just so bored! The movies that I wanted to watch weren't available. 5 hours later I arrived in South Korea and had to wait 2 more hours for my connecting flight. I was kind of hungry, so I walked around and I found a mcdonlads. LOL, I know, why would I want to eat mcdonalds when I am in South Korea. I ordered a number 8, which was a shrimp burger. What?! A shrimp Burger? LOL, it was basically a patty of shrimp inside 2 hamburger buns with cheese. It wasn't too bad. Then I got on my flight, and I sat next to this asian guy about my age. He was really nice, and I think he was checking me out, hahah. When I got to Hong Kong 3 hours later, I rushed my way to immigration to get my passport stamped then I went to baggage claim to get my 2 checkin luggage. I took the airport tram all the way to central hong kong, which was about 25 minutes, where I met with my godmother. As soon as I saw her. She handed me the gate ticket to allow me through. We took a taxi back to her place. BTW, taxis are red there. lol, and the driver is on the right side of the vehicle, and people drive on the left. lol. As soon as we get home, I unpack, shower, and sleep

The next day, Friday, I ended up walking around central hk. DAMN IT, it's hella hot here. LOL. I walk all the way to where I'm supposed to work to check out the buildling. It's not far at all from where my godmother works and lives. Like a 10 minute walk. Not bad at all! =) Later around 5PM my godmother, her maid (celly), and I get on a ferry to Lantau Island where my godmother's weekend house is. On Lantau, her house is on this area called Tong Fuk. It looks HELLA village like, but it's funny, because her house looks really nice and contemporary. I was in Tong Fuk for a little over 3 days (friday, saturday, sunday, and part of Monday). During those 3 days, I went on the beach which is like 5 minute walking distance away, I went online ALOT, ate, went to my godmother's friend's house, watched friends, and just chilled out.

On Monday, we left Tong Fuk at around 730AM to take the bus to the MTR train back to Hong Kong Island- Central. Note to self, always wear a wifebeater and bring a hand towel when it's hot and humid. I was looking toe up from the floor up, NASTY. I got back to central, and we ate at Mcdonalds there. Yum, their breakfast is somewhat the same than in the US, but there are some special items like soup and grilled chicken that are on HK's Mcdonald breakfast menu. I had to be at my internship at 10AM, so I proceeded down to where I'm supposed to work. OMFG, I was sweating like no other. I was soo embarassed to walk in and i'm all drenched in my own sweat. I had to find a bathroom or something to clean up, it was gross. The humid and temperature is killing me. I walked in my internship at Monopoly Design, and the front desk guy guided me to another lady, who introduced me to some designers and showed my my desk where I'll be working at. I was just sitting around for like 15 minutes when the lady who hired me, Rachel, walked in the office and introduced herself to me. She then showed me some of Monopoly Design's works and projects that I will be helping with. One project that they had my brainstorm concepts and visuals for was for an annual report cover for a company called China Merchants Holdings International. They facilitate the shipping and the ports of various locations on the coast of China. For lunch, I got an hour for break, so I ended up walking down to Jollibee and having my favorite, CHICKEN JOY!! Afterwards I stopped by this bakery, and bought this pudding that was shaped as animals, it was so cool! LOL. I got back to the studio, and worked some more until 6:30 hit. Rachel seemed to be impressed by my initial brainstorming and concepts of my ideas. When I went home, I ate dinner that celly made for me, rice, mushroom soup, sauteed backchoy (sp?), grilled chicken. Yum. Then I watched a few episodes of friends until I fell asleep. I'm still jetlagged, as I write this at 6:20AM. LOL
